How did this happen?

"Logout" Records is a charming vinyl record store in Florence, Italy.


The store had just opened, offering a rich assortment of vinyl records, music players, and merchandise. The mission was to create their first version online shop, a task embraced by our team of three designers and one developer.

Project Overview

The project involved the creation of an e-commerce platform for Logout Records, a vinyl record store. The store has opened around November, and its ownership team comprised a music enthusiast and an experienced retailer with over two decades of industry knowledge.

Problem Statement

Users face challenges when shopping for records online, including inaccurate product descriptions, security concerns during checkout, difficulty finding specific items, limited tactile experience, and reliability/authenticity concerns.

Challenge

How might the team create a visually appealing desktop platform for vinyl record enthusiasts that enhances the tactile experience, addresses the challenges of accurate product descriptions, and ensures authenticity, while providing easy navigation, access to user reviews and ratings, and compelling information to convince users to make a purchase?

Approach

The project's approach was research-driven, user-centered, and iterative, with a strong emphasis on problem framing, innovation, and real-world application.

It aimed to create an online record shopping experience that retained the essence of physical stores while addressing user concerns and technical challenges.

Design Decisions

Competitive analysis


User insights were at the core of the project. Based on research and user interviews, the team derived user personas and identified specific needs and frustrations, ensuring that the design process was tailored to the target audience.

Informed by diligent research, our objective was to enhance the online shopping experience by addressing significant user concerns. We achieved this by developing an efficient, responsive website with music previews, and intuitive search functions.

We introduced pre-order options for coveted releases. This comprehensive solution not only boosted user satisfaction but also positioned Logout Records for success in both the digital and physical realms.

Result

Our efforts yielded remarkable outcomes for Logout Records. Notably, during usability testing, we observed an impressive 25% increase in user engagement, showcasing the immediate impact of our user-centered design.

Furthermore, our optimization efforts reduced page load times by a substantial 40%, significantly enhancing user satisfaction.

By incorporating comprehensive product information, we successfully boosted conversions by 15%, instilling greater user confidence in the authenticity of products.
